1st Are you Stressed out ?.
Let’s face the mere act of trying to achieve a certain weight loss goal is stressful enough, but add to that all the stresses of life in general (especially in the current circumstances) you may find that you are suffering from too much stress. If you are excessively stressed the body releases the hormones cortisol and Ghrelin into your body. Cortisol causes your body to store fat especially around the middle. This unhealthy weight gain can affect a number of important organs and can also counter-balance the weight losses elsewhere. Grehlin is known as the hunger hormone because it creates craving for food, which makes sticking to your restrictions more difficult.
2nd Is Your exercise regime too Intense?
Hang on a minute – intense exercise is good right? This may sound a bit counter intuitive but not always. Intensive exercise (operating at you maximum) will first of all cause your body to burn its muscles creatine phosphate stores but this will only last a very short time. After this has been depleted the body looks for other sources. Carbohydrates are a very efficient source because they release energy quickly, however fats release more energy per gram than carbohydrates but do so more slowly. As the body tries to match what it burns with the rate at which it is burning energy. So, reducing your intensity down to say 70% of your maximum is likely to lead to the body burning more fat rather than carbohyrates.
3rd Polycystic Overy Syndrome (PCOS)
This disease affects high volumes of women. It is thought to affect one in ten women and one on the symptoms of the disease is weight gain not attributable to excessive eating. The actual cause of PCOS is unknown, but it is thought to be related to hormonal imbalance and specifically high levels of insulin, which could be related to ‘insulin’ resistance. In can also lead to elevated levels of testosterone in the body
4th Do you have an underactive thyriod?
Where a body has an underactive Thyroid, it may not produce enough thyroid hormone to help the body to burn stored fat. This will result in a slower metabolism and you will store more fat than you burn. This is less likely if you physically active.
5th Hormonal Imbalances
As women age their bodies change as they go through the different stages of their life. This can lead to the levels of various hormones becoming elevate or depleted, resulting in an imbalance. This can have the effect of inhibiting weight loss as the body loses it capability to burn fat in the way it should.
So there you have it, while this is not a totally comprehensive list of all of the potential causes of your weight loss slowing down or stopping, it at least gives some idea where to start your investigation. Most of these issues seems to have some relation to hormone imbalances in your body, but don’t despair there are solutions out there.
